Adverts will appear in the main industry trade publications - Farmers Weekly and Farmers Guardian - on Friday encouraging readers to write to their local newspaper, local MP, or Defra Secretary of State Hilary Benn urging them to support the committee's proposals. Letter templates have been posted on the NFU website - www.nfuonline.com - that people can use as the basis for their letters.

In addition, a video featuring livestock farmer Julia Evans talking about how TB has affected her animals, her livelihood and her life over the past six years has been posted on NFU Online and a new channel has been created on the website, dedicated to bovine TB, which will keep members up to date with the latest developments and the spread of the disease.

NFU Deputy President Meurig Raymond said: "The need for a decision by the Secretary of State regarding bovine TB is reaching a critical point and it is important the Government follows through the Efra Committee's recommendations in full. Bovine TB has blighted the lives of many farmers and Julia Evans' video brings home the human cost of this pernicious disease."
