End To Over 30 Month Rule Is Good News For Beef Industry

UK - The Over Thirty Month (OTM) rule was lifted on Monday. The OTM Rule, which stops older cattle entering the human food chain, has been in place since March 1996. It is now being replaced with a BSE testing regime. Northern Ireland Agriculture Minister, Jeff Rooker, said: "This is a significant step following the decline of the BSE epidemic over the last nine years. "It represents a welcome boost for the food industry and our beef farmers who will now be able to enter their older cattle into the food chain." Cattle born before August 1, 1996 will continue to be excluded from the food chain.
