Slovenia's Milk Production On the Up

SLOVENIA - Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that a total of 530,374 tonnes of milk was collected from farms in Slovenia in 2007, a year-on-year increase of 3.8 per cent.

The average fat content of collected milk was 4.11 per cent, an increase of 0.7 per cent as compared with 2006.

Drinking milk production in Slovenia in 2007 totalled 164,530 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 5.3 per cent, while cream production was 10.2 per cent higher year-on-year at 15,170 tonnes.

Production of "acidified milk" last year of 33,289 tonnes was 3.5 per cent lower year-on-year, with production of milk and cream powder 17.9 per cent lower; no figure was given for the production of these products in 2007.

Butter production in Slovenia in 2007 totalled 2,538 tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 8.6 per cent. Production of cheese from cow's milk last year totalled 18,748 tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 8.0 per cent.
