Meet On Dairy Development Opens
T’PURAM - A joint effort on the part of south Indian states is needed to find a permanent solution for milk shortage and for improving production through scientific methods, said Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan.He was inaugurating the two-day regional conference of the ministers of dairy development and animal husbandry on Strengthening Regional Co-operation for Synergy in Dairy and Animal Husbandry Sector’ here on Wednesday.
The small-scale farmers and landless farmers depend heavily on dairy and animal husbandry sectors for income.
Though Milma has been able to bring out a variety of schemes regarding the distribution and marketing of milk and milk products, the local procurement of milk has been very low, said the Chief Minister.
Though India has the largest population of cattle in the world, we have to go a long way in the area of milk production, said C.Divakaran, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Food and Civil Supplies.
