"We say bring it on. They'll be in a position where we can depose their officials and get access to their records."

Mark Kastel, senior farm policy analyst at Wisconsin-based Cornucopia Institute

The group that challenged the organic credentials of Aurora Organic Dairy, a company running a dairy near Stratford, found out Monday the conflict isn't over.

"The capper is yesterday we got a letter from Aurora threatening to sue," Mark Kastel, senior farm policy analyst at Wisconsin-based Cornucopia Institute, said Tuesday. "We say bring it on. They'll be in a position where we can depose their officials and get access to their records."

Aurora accused Cornucopia and two other groups, Organic Consumers Association and the Center for Food Safety, of defaming the company.

The groups are looking at filing a consumer fraud lawsuit because they say Aurora was selling milk erroneously labeled organic.

Aurora, which supplies 15 of the top 20 U.S. retail grocers like Safeway and Costco, defends its product as government approved.

It entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Aug. 23 to change some of its practices at its dairies near Platteville, Colo., and Dublin after Cornucopia complained in 2005 the company was not following regulations covering organic dairies.

USDA initially threatened to revoke Aurora's certification, but negotiated the agreement instead.
