Farmers gathered in Mold, Llanrwst and Dolgellau before splitting into groups and targeting Asda, Somerfield and Sainsbury stores across the region.

The action was an attempt to bring meat buyers to the negotiating table.

“We felt there was a need to disturb the status quo and get things moving,” said Cerrigydrudion producer Will Edwards, who has been appointed spokesman for the disaffected farmers.

“We just want lamb and beef buyers from the big supermarkets to explain why we’re in this predicament.”

The loss of exports, which account for one in three lambs from Wales, has left domestic markets struggling to cope.
