Hawaii Milk Production Down Sharply
US - Hawaii milk production fell 43 percent in June, the month that saw the closure of Waianae-based Mountain View Dairy. Farm prices for milk rose a little more than 1 percent.The price per 100 pounds of milk rose to $27.70, up 30 cents from May.
The state's cow herds also shrank, dropping to 2,700 head, down 37 percent from a year ago.
Mountain View closed its doors amid rising production costs in June, leaving one dairy on Oahu and three on the Big Island.
