Dairy Prices Continue To Rise
US - While consumers are shelling out almost $4 for select gallons of milk, there may be a reprieve in prices soon. The current increase in milk prices is all part of the ebb and flow of the dairy industry, said Les Hardesty, owner of Cozy Cow Dairy in Windsor and chairman of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board.
"(Prices) will come down," he said, anticipating they will start to level off in the next one to three months. "Supply will catch up."
But until that leveling off occurs, local businesses are feeling the pinch.
Prices for milk at Beavers Market mirror the fluctuating prices from the store's distributors such as Meadow Gold and Morning Fresh, manager Bryan Beavers said.
But higher prices in the dairy case don't seem to have an effect on consumers' buying habits.
While Beaver couldn't estimate the amount of price increases, Beavers Market reported its dairy sales are up this quarter compared to last quarter. Even with the recent hike in prices, Beavers doesn't anticipate a drop in sales.
