UK - The govenment's chief vet confirmed that any decision on whether to allow badger culling to control bovine TB now rests solely with Secretary of state David Miliband and other ministers.

Speaking at the publication of her annual report, Debby Reynolds said the reduction in bovine TB remained a priority and highlighted the progress of the introduction of pre-movement testing for cattle in March 2006.
However, she refused to comment on badger controls.
“I can’t say anything more on badger culling and TB it is up to ministers,” she said.
She did comment on the issue of culling licences. Farming minister Lord Rooker had said back in February that the Government might agree to allowing culling licences to farmers from May. But said the Government would not be involved.
