Recent figures from the UK show an average of three dairy farmers leaving the industry each day, with lower production affecting the EU's exports.

Michael Harvey from Dairy Australia says despite our strong dollar, Australian exporters have the upper hand over European rivals.

"We've seen prices jump quite dramatically in the last six months," he said.

"There's a real shortage of product and it's just forced prices up, so we've got the Australian exporters sort of shifting product mix to find the best returns at the moment."
