The PROMATE system utilises an extensive database of sires from all over the country. Semex hopes that the variety of the genetic breeding pool on the programme will enable breeders to pick and choose the most effective mating partners for their animals. The information provided claims to have factored in individual requirements to produce personally tailored breeding recommendations. If only human life was this simple.

Andrew Axford, a sales team leader, assures us “PROMATE is the most sophisticated, flexible and farmer-friendly system in the industry and promises to be a very important tool for progressive pedigree and commercial breeders,.

“Its main strengths are that it reduces losses resulting from inbreeding as well as giving breeders the widest possible sire choice - enabling them to improve the traits they need for their business to prosper. It is also an incredibly straightforward system to use: Following an initial herd assessment by your fully trained Semex advisor, each cow’s scores are entered into the PROMATE program to calculate a complete recommended sire report with various options, including lower-priced or high-fertility sires for cows that have proven difficult to get in calf.”
