The prospect of dairy cows being paraded in demonstrations was raised as six organisations teamed up for a campaign to highlight the growing crisis faced by the Welsh dairy sector.

The joint approach, using the slogan "Low milk prices have a high cost", was launched at a meeting in Aberystwyth last week.

"Ten years ago there were 30,000 dairy farmers in the UK. Today there are only 14,000 with many more expected to leave the industry," said Women's Food and Farming Union president Ionwen Lewis, who farms in Ceredigion.
