The January Cattle Survey is one of the biggest and most important surveys done at the Kansas Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Eldon Thiessen, ag statistics director, said.

Kansas researchers will contact 1,900 cattle operations to measure beef, dairy and cattle inventories as well as the number of cattle operations and the 2006 calf crop.

Producers selected for the survey, which will be published Feb. 2, will have the option of responding via Internet, mail, telephone or personal interview with an ag statistics representative.

Nationwide, survey representatives will contact almost 50,000 cattle operations.
