Schumer: Democrats working to preserve milk farmer program
US - New York state's dairy farmers face a better shot at keeping a price support program intact now that Democrats will control Congress.

Schumer contends the Democrats assuming key positions in the Senate and House are longtime boosters of dairy interests. And he says that's good news for the Milk Income Loss Contract, also known as MILC (milk).
The program briefly expired last year when legislators couldn't strike a deal. It was finally renewed at the end of 2005 for two years at an estimated cost of one (b) billion dollars.
With the Democrats' holding a 51-seat majority in the Senate beginning in January, Schumer says the MILC program's future looks much brighter.
