FDA panel wants aggressive testing for mad-cow disease

US — A federal advisory panel stepped outside its assigned sphere yesterday to add its voice to others calling for a more aggressive mad-cow testing program. The only way to find out whether the brain-wasting disease has spread in the cattle population is to test a larger percentage of animals, said members of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel on mad-cow and related diseases.
