Report shows packers not profiting from BSE

CANADA - Meat packers are not profiting unfairly from the BSE crisis or gouging consumers, suggests a provincial review of retail beef prices released Thursday.
The review, completed without the aid of the packers' financial statements, said meat packers have been hit with increased costs since May 20, and that the retail price of beef dropped by an overall 20 per cent in Alberta during the last half of 2003
