The Korea Times said the discovery was expected to trigger fresh concerns about the safety of U.S. beef.

The United States shipped 8.9 tons of beef in about 720 separate packages, the first shipment to South Korea since the latter lifted its ban following the reporting of a case of mad cow disease in the United States.

Another shipment of U.S. beef, totaling 3.6 tons, arrived in South Korea Thursday.
