IFA meet EU officials on Cost of BSE testing

IRELAND - IFA President Padraig Walshe has met with EU officials to urge them that they must immediately remove the excessive cost of BSE testing by increasing the age limit to 36 months of age.

He said “under the terms of the €7 billion partnership agreement secured by IFA, we agreed a number of measures including the right to negotiate to secure EU approval to increase the age for BSE testing, and adjustments to the current identification and registration system for sheep.

” He added that the current 30 month BSE test does not make sense as it involves unnecessary cost and inconvenience for farmers.
