United States blasts Japan for rejecting BSE proposal

WASHINGTON - The United States on Thursday criticized Tokyo for spurning its proposal to have an international organization break the impasse over Japan's import ban on U.S. beef. ``We are disappointed that the Japanese response to our proposal was conveyed through the press instead of engaging in constructive dialogue about the merits of the proposal,'' U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick said in a joint statement.
