Don't Bring In Thai Cattle Illegally, Shariff Warns Kelantanese

MALAYSIA - Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shariff Omar today warned Kelantan residents not to bring in cattle from Thailand without a permit.

He said the government viewed the smuggling of cattle from the neighbouring country as serious and would not hesitate to act firmly on the culprits.

"It should not happen because it's the local breeders who will bear the consequences," he told reporters after opening a course on animal husbandry and organic fertiliser processing here yesterday.

He said domestic animals from other countries must be quarantined first to ensure their health and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
