Abbott Mad Cow Test Wins U.S. Approval

NEW YORK - Abbott Laboratories Inc. on Wednesday said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved its rapid test for the malformed proteins believed to cause mad cow disease, the third such test approved in the United States.
The suburban Chicago-based company said its Enfer BSE product is already used for mandatory testing of cattle brain specimens in the United Kingdom and Japan, where the disease has been confirmed.
