Move to ban test raises eyebrows, Ranchers question BSE ruling

EDMONTON -- A move by the U.S. government to ban a Kansas beef producer from testing its cattle herd for BSE is raising a lot of eyebrows in Alberta. Creekstone Farms, a premium beef producer which used to have a lucrative market in Japan, recently asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture for permission to use a recently-approved rapid BSE test on all of its animals.
But the USDA said Creekstone's plan would have "implied a consumer safety aspect that is not scientifically warranted."
