Liquid milk price must be linked to market return-KLMP

IRELAND - Speaking on the eve of critical talks between Connacht Gold Co-op and suppliers, the Chairman of the Kerry Liquid Milk Producers (KLMP) group, Cormac Guinan, has encouraged his counterpart in Connacht Gold to strongly resist any attempt by the Co-op to link payment for liquid milk to any other market.

Mr. Guinan said “the link to manufacturing milk price and the changes in the winter bonus payment structure has cost the average supplier €8,000 a year in Kerry. During the same period our Co-op has taken significant price increases from the marketplace.” KLMP Chairman, Cormac Guinan said, “KLMP fully supports Connacht Gold liquid suppliers. It is morally wrong for Co-ops created by farmers for the benefit of its members to receive more for their produce in the marketplace and pay less for it to farmers.”
