NFU acknowledges 'desperate farmers' are performing illegal badger culls
UK - South-west farmers are believed to be among a growing number of producers carrying out illegal badger culls on their farms in the face of government inaction on bovine tuberculosis.

"There is a growing frustration with DEFRA's policy and that will drive farmers to do the only thing they can to protect their business," said NFU TB spokesman Jan Rowe.
Latest DEFRA statistics show that almost 8500 cattle were slaughtered due to TB in the south west in the first eight months of this year. In total, 2678 herds were placed under TB restrictions.
