His Royal Highness Speaks of the Future of UK Dairy
UK - His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales expressed his passion for the future of Welsh family farms last night during a meeting with National Farmer's Union Cymru President Dai Davies.NFU Cymru representatives met HRH, the Prince of Wales, along with others with interests in the Welsh Dairy sector, at his Carmarthenshire residence, Llwynywermod, last night (Wednesday) to consider the ramifications for Wales, following the collapse of the milk co-operative Dairy Farmers of Britain.
Following the meeting, Dai Davies said, “The Prince of Wales clearly feels passionately about the future of Wales’ family farms and was concerned to hear, first hand, the implications for the dairy sector in Wales following the demise of Dairy Farmers of Britain.”
“We discussed at some length what might be done to mitigate the financial impact on these producers who would lose significant sums of money and capital invested in Dairy Farmers of Britain and whose business were, as a consequence, on the brink of collapse. We also discussed what could be done for the now relatively small number of producers in Wales who had still to find an alternative outlet for their milk suppliers.”
Dai Davies ended, “The Prince of Wales indicated that he would do anything he could to assist and asked to be kept informed of developments.”
Following the meeting Dai Davies handed HRH a copy of the NFU’s recently produced survival plan for the dairy industry.
