Print This Page Russia Buys Up Meat and Milk from Estonia
ESTONIA - Due to low purchase price Estonian farmers sell milk and meat to Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia.Since the summer of last year the purchase price of milk started rising from EEK 3.9 reaching more than EEK 5.2 by the start of this year, but the prices rose even quicker in Latvia and Lithuania than in Estonia, writes Maaleht of the Baltic Business News.
The prices of milk products have fallen on the global market and thereby local industries aren’t very interested in increasing the amount of milk.
The same phenomenon can be seen on the local pork market. If in May the purchase price of pigs in Estonia increased by a mere per cent, then in Latvia and Lithuania the rise was over 10 pct.
