Competition Report on Vets Gets Thumbs Up
IRELAND - The Irish Farmers Association Animal Health Project Team met yesterday to consider the recommendations contained in the Competition Authority report on veterinary practitioners.
IFA Deputy President Derek Deane said the report contained some useful recommendations in relation to monitoring of veterinary services in remote areas by the Department of Agriculture, the introduction of lay TB testing and the removal of unnecessary regulations on advertising of veterinary services.
These recommendations will be of major benefit to farmers to maintain competition in the veterinary service field and ensure adequate veterinary cover in their areas.
These recommendations are in line with the IFA submission to the Competition Authority.
Mr Deane said he would be meeting with the Department of Agriculture and the Veterinary Council to ensure these recommendations are implemented.
He said the Competition Authority had failed to tackle the red tape and regulations on the cost and supply of animal medicines and remedies.
