The suspected case was found in a cow of the Salers breed on 17 March.

Tests by the National Reference Laboratory of the National Agency for Health and Safety (ANSES) showed the presence of BSE in the animal, which was sent for rendering.

The samples have been sent to the reference laboratory of the European Union (EU-RL) to receive further confirmation of the result of the analysis. The result should be available within 8 to 10 days.

An epidemiological investigation has also been launched to gather information to better understand the origin of the disease if it is confirmed.

A surveillance order has also been imposed.
