21 March 2014

LESOTHO – A bacterial outbreak killing four cattle and one horse in northern Lesotho has been confirmed as anthrax.

The World Organisation has confirmed the outbreak was restricted to a 500 cow herd in the northern state of Berea, although could not name the source.

State veterinary authorities reported ‘sudden’ deaths in affected livestock.

A vaccination plan has treated 757 cattle locally. Infected buildings have been cleaned but no movement restrictions has been imposed.
