Anthrax Confirmed in Migrating Livestock

AZERBAIJAN – Six hundred sheep have been vaccinated in the eastern area of Siazen after results from the Republican Veterinary Laboratory found anthrax in a flock being moved to summer pasture.

A total of 645 animals have been exposed to Bacillius anthracis with one fatailty, according to Dr Siala Ismayil Rustamova, Chief Veterinary Officer at the State Veterinary Service in Baku.

The flock was undergoing seasonal movement from Absheron into Gusar, across Siazen.

Several measures have been enacted including quarantine, control movements and disinfection.
