EU and Brazil Sign Animal Welfare Agreement

EU & BRAZIL - Brazil and the European Union signed an animal welfare agreement during the 6th EU Summit Brazil held 24 January, at the Presidential Palace.

The partnership provides a working group for regular exchange of information and technical cooperation for the improvement of farming systems of food animals from birth to slaughter.

The protocol was developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) through the Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development (SDC) in collaboration with the Department of Inspection of Animal Products (DIPOA / SDA).

The European Union is one of the most demanding markets and demand for appropriate treatment of livestock. According to the International Relations Secretary of Agribusiness, Celio Porto, the signed agreement promotes the exchange of scientific information and expertise on the subject of animal welfare.
