Minister of Agriculture, Juan Cmilo Restrepo Salazar said that the consequences of a FMD outbreak would be serious.

With evidence of Venezuelan cattle smuggling, Mr Salazar said that Colombians must be on the lookout to ensure that their herds remain healthy and disease free.

He said that regrettably someone had authorised FMD vaccinations to be suspended for a short time as leverage. He will be meeting with farmers in Arauca and the government this week to discuss the issue further.
