EBBE - European Board Of Bovine Experts

EBBE consists of veterinary, nutrition and animal management experts from across the EU.

Whilst the last meeting looked at fertility issues in the dairy herd, dairy cow nutrition will be the focus of the third meeting.

Dr Paola Amodeo, an Italian dairy consultant, will organise a tour for the group to a high performance dairy farm. This visit will be used as a practical example to discuss the influences on dairy cow nutrition and fertility.

Professor Daniel Sauvant, from the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), will look at the limitations of the digestive tract in high performing dairy cows.

Mary Beth de Ondarza, a US dairy nutritionist, will look at how fresh cow diets can improve metabolic health and productivity.

In October 2011 the group established the Metabolic Health Scheme – a scheme that will put the cow’s metabolic balance first.

The scheme aims to help improving milk production by looking at parameters that affect metabolic health. It is hoped that this scheme will be further developed in Milan.
