No Evidence of Schmallenberg Risk to Humans

EU - A study, carried out by the Robert Koch Institute, has confirmed that people cannot be infected by the Schmallenberg virus.

In February, scientists took blood samples from 60 sheep farmers, whose flocks were infected with Schmallenberg. No antibodies associated with the virus were found in the blood samples, demonstrating that the farmers had not been infected with the virus.

Tests were carried out on farmers with "non-specific symptoms" such as fever or headaches, these also came back negative.

Based on the results of the study, the scientists have confirmed that the risk of infection of Schmallenberg in humans is extremely low.
