Small Farmers Could Neglect Welfare Under CAP

EU - Small farmers will not be penalised for neglecting cross compliance, under new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) propsals.

The proposals suggest that any farmer claiming support in 2014 may decide to participate in the 'Small will look at benefiting small farmers through an annual payment between €500 and €1000, regardless of farm size.

The Commission estimates that 2.5 million small European farmers will benefit from the CAP proposals.

Participants will face less stringent cross-compliance requirements, and be exempt from greening.

A small farmer is one complying with the minimum claim threshold.
