Mr Ballard has been an appointed director since 2006 and Sir Henry said he has made a valued contribution to the Co-operative over the past five years.

“In particular, John’s experience and insights on the consumer businesses have been a real asset around the Board table,” said Sir Henry.

Mr Ballard served on the Appointments, Remuneration and Development Committee and the Health and Safety Committee. He will stay on in his role as Director until Fonterra’s Annual Meeting in November.

The Board is now identifying a replacement Director who will be announced in due course.
