Model Milch Cattle Centres Coming to Chandigarh
INDIA - The UT administration has finalized a plan to set up three Model Milch Cattle Centres and equal number of veterinary hospitals and sheds in Chandigarh.The milch centres would help in moving out cattle from villages and help give dairy farming an integrated and scientific thrust, the sheds would be used for housing large animals, reports TheTimesOfIndia.
According to the TheTimesOfIndia, the administration plans to hire the services of a consultant for the development of model cattle centres. It has identified three locations on the outskirts of the city to convert them into model cattle villages at Maloya, Kaimwala and Raipur Kalan. The UT has in all 18 villages in its territory.
This will be in keeping with the plans of the Municipal Corporation to make Chandigarh an animal-free city but will put additional responsibility on the animal husbandry department, said Dr ABS Kohli, joint director, animal husbandry department.
"These cattle villages would have the facilities of veterinary hospitals, feed and fodder centres. Each centre will have the capacity to house 5,000 to 6,000 animals. We have also plans to put the animal dung to good use. There is a proposal to set up gobar gas plant at each centre to generate electricity from dung. Technically, it is a feasible proposition," Dr Kohli added.
