27 April 2009

UK - The changing shape of livestock farming in South East England is the subject of the first Livestock Health South East (LHSE) conference organised by DairyCo and Westpoint Veterinary Group on behalf of LHSE, taking place on Wednesday 6 May.

The conference, Does Size Matter?, will be tackling a series of issues that concern managers of large herds with a number of influential industry speakers, reports DairyCo.

The event will take place at Ardingly Showground, West Sussex, and the programme includes topics such as Managing large herds for profit - the importance of herdsmen, Sustainability and survival in the dairy industry, Calf health, and Breeding decisions for cattle health.

DairyCo extension officer for the region, Andrew Warner, says the new conference will provide valuable insight into health management in large herds, “this will give livestock farmers the opportunity to find out more about the most up-to-date information, helping them maintain and improve the health of their stock, and ensuring the sustainability of farming in the region.”

Speakers include National Farmers Union Dairy Board Chairman Gwyn Jones, Independent Vet and Consultant to the Sainsbury’s Dairy Project James Husband, Ian Potter, Prof. Gary Rogers of GenoGlobal USA, Oxfordshire dairy farmer David Christensen, and John Fishwick of the Royal Veterinary College.
