VIET NAM - Bovine foot-and-mouth disease has broken out in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum and southern Long An Province. The deadly cattle disease, which had been eradicated nationwide, has recurred, the Animal Health Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said Monday.
Seventy-three cows in Nhut Ninh Hamlet, Tan Tru District, and Hiep Thanh Hamlet, Chau Thanh District in southern Long An Province have contracted the disease, local animal health authorities said.
The local women’s union had unknowingly purchased cattle infected with foot-and-mouth cheaply from a cow trader to give to female union members experiencing financial hardship.
