Australian Dairy Farmers Milk Healthy Profit

AUSTRALIA - Farmers hope milk prices aren't reduced to help fund last week's A$910 million takeover of milk processor Dairy Farmers by National Foods.

According to ABCRural, in the first four months of this financial year, Dairy Farmers earnings lifted 22 per cent, because of a 6 per cent rise in sales and a two-year cost-cutting programme.

Farmer Rick Gladigau, from Mount Torrens in South Australia, says it's not surprising the company has done so well over the past few months, but he hopes farmers keep getting reasonable prices for farmers.

"When Dairy Farmers took over Dairy Vale, we saw that carrot dangling of a good price," he told the news agency.

"And then, after 12 months, suddenly the prices started dropping off.
