British tests clear Croatian mad cow case
CROATIA - Additional tests on samples of a Croatian cow that initially tested positive for madcow disease have proved negative.

The final tests carried out by a laboratory at Weybridge, Britain found the cow was "negative for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)", the brain-wasting disease, the agriculture ministry said Friday.

Croatia's veterinary authorities announced last week that regular tests conducted for all slaughtered cattle more than 30 months old had shown that a five-year-old cow had contracted madcow disease.

The cow, from a farm in the eastern party of the country, had not shown symptoms of the disease before being slaughtered. Its brain samples were sent to the British laboratory.
