July 2016 Highlights
Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 1.02 billion pounds, 1.4 percent above July 2015 and 2.6 percent above June 2016. Italian type cheese production totaled 444 million pounds, 3.2 percent above July 2015 and 2.3 percent above June 2016. American type cheese production totaled 398 million pounds, 0.2 percent above July 2015 and 2.2 percent above June 2016.
Butter production was 144 million pounds, 6.0 percent above July 2015 but 5.1 percent below June 2016.
Dry milk powders (comparisons with July 2015)
- Nonfat dry milk, human - 153 million pounds, down 1.5 percent.
- Skim milk powders - 46.3 million pounds, up 32.9 percent.
Whey products (comparisons with July 2015)
- Dry whey, total - 83.9 million pounds, up 2.7 percent.
- Lactose, human and animal - 97.7 million pounds, up 8.2 percent.
- Whey protein concentrate, total - 37.8 million pounds, down 9.4 percent.
Frozen products (comparisons with July 2015)
- Ice cream, regular (hard) - 69.7 million gallons, down 3.7 percent.
- Ice cream, lowfat (total) - 41.7 million gallons, down 3.2 percent.
- Sherbet (hard) - 3.28 million gallons, down 12.9 percent.
- Frozen yogurt (total) - 5.93 million gallons, down 10.4 percent.
