Bluetongue Vaccine Launched For Indian Market

13 January 2015

INDIA – An Indian health company has released a vaccine for Bluetongue, active against five strains prevalent in the country.

Vaccine developers at Indian Immunologicals Limited (ILL) are charging five rupees for farmers and hope to counter the virus which has been affecting sheep, cattle and goats nationwide.

The product was a result of the Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is being marketed at India’s 70 million head sheep population, reports The Hindu.

The scale of India’s livestock sector means the vaccine is important, said ICAR director Gaya Prasad.
