International Milk Prices Fall in Global Dairy Trade

07 March 2012

GLOBAL - The latest Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction shows declines in many protein based products, including skimmed milk powder, cheddar, casein and milk protin concentrate.

Milk protein concentrate fell by 7.6 per cent.

The price drop at the auction is the third consecutive fall.

Contrary to this, fat based products saw a price increase.

Surprisingly whole milk powder fell marginally by 0.3 per cent. Speculation had been that whole milk powder prices would drop much further, as NZ's milk supply influenced markets.

Fears around global finances are likely to have influenced the market place.
