South Korea Reopens Livestock Markets

11 April 2011

SOUTH KOREA - South Korea announced it planned to reopen all 85 of its livestock markets last week.

The news comes nearly four months after they were closed to block the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), the government said on 7 April.

Yonhap reports that local livestock markets will reopen to business on Friday after they were closed on 29 November 2010, when the first case of FMD was confirmed in the country, the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.
