September 2014 Highlights

Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 942 million pounds, 4.7 percent above September 2013 and 0.2 percent above August 2014.

Italian type cheese production totaled 415 million pounds, 7.9 percent above September 2013 and 3.5 percent above August 2014.

American type cheese production totaled 361 million pounds, 4.0 percent above September 2013 but 3.4 percent below August 2014. Butter production was 130 million pounds, 1.6 percent below September 2013 but 1.2 percent above August 2014.

Dry milk powders (comparisons with September 2013)

Nonfat dry milk, human - 114 million pounds, up 54.1 percent.

Skim milk powders - 40.9 million pounds, down 24.5 percent.

Whey products (comparisons with September 2013)

Dry whey, total - 69.5 million pounds, down 3.9 percent.

Lactose, human and animal - 100 million pounds, up 13.7 percent.

Whey protein concentrate, total - 42.1 million pounds, up 7.0 percent.

Frozen products (comparisons with September 2013)

Ice cream, regular (hard) - 61.7 million gallons, down 1.8 percent.

Ice cream, lowfat (total) - 32.2 million gallons, down 3.2 percent.

Sherbet (hard) - 3.23 million gallons, up 3.9 percent.

Frozen yogurt (total) - 4.59 million gallons, down 19.1 percent.
