Meeting Called for Development of Dairy Sector

PAKISTAN - The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, in collaboration with the Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department, organised a consultative meeting for the development of the dairy sector of Pakistan.

Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department Secretary Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood presided over the meeting at the City Campus and sought suggestions and technical inputs from stakeholders for the formulation of policies and plans for profitability of the dairy sector, according to The Express Tribune.

He also asked the participants to mull over the needs of the country and to provide surplus livestock products for exports.

UVAS Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Syed Yawar Ali, Buffalo Breeders Association President Haji Saeed Hassan Hotiana and a large number of stakeholders from public and private dairy sectors across Punjab, academicians, researchers and officials from Livestock Department attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the livestock secretary said the aim of the consultative meeting was to provide a platform to all the stakeholders for networking where they could find opportunities, keeping in view the current value chain and other important issues.

He asked them to come up with innovative ideas and share their issues and problems so that solutions could be found for growth of the dairy sector.

Dr Pasha gave a detailed presentation on key issues hampering the growth of the dairy sector, milk production model in Punjab, potential impact of price de-capping, import of milk and whey powder and changing trends in the dairy industry with the use of tea whitener.
