He said the agreement should help Mexican breeders live up to international standards, and export genetic material (semen, embryos and live cattle) to destinations such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Argentina and Uruguay.

Mr Gurria Trevino was speaking at the opening of the XXVI National Angus Exhibition, attended by hundreds of farmers from all over the country, with their high quality animals of this Scottish breed.

He stressed that Mexican breeders had ample opportunity to compete with other countries, especially with scrutiny from the genomics laboratory in Morelia, Michoacan.

For his part, the president of Mexico Angus and Angus World Secretariat, Billy Estrada Zubia, welcomed domestic producers and foreign visitors who came to verify the quality of Mexican cattle.

He emphasised that when the government gives incentives to livestock producers, they can achieve these goals of quality and international recognition.
