Bluetongue Virus Confirmed on Croatian Island

16 March 2015

CROATIA - A small island off the south of Croatia has reported Bluetongue virus on six farms.

Veterinary officials have confirmed an unknown serotype of the virus on Lastovo, a small island in the Adriatic Sea, nearly five months after confirmation of serotype four on the mainland.

Cattle, sheep and goats have been affected, the worst hit farm having 265 sheep classed as susceptible.

Vaccination is ongoing. A range of measures are limiting animal movement, reports the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
