Mexican Livestock Free of Six More Diseases

22 December 2014

MEXICO – Livestock sectors are tipped to prosper in Mexico in light of recent disease status reviews.

Mexico is officially free of classical swine fever, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, peste des petites ruminants, african horse sickness, foot and mouth disease and rinderpest.

This is according to the latest World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) ruling, opening up a livestock sector to over sixty destinations around the world.

Agriculture ministry reports added that Mexico’s bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is currently “controlled risk”.

More markets have been opened, mainly for cattle, equine and pork products, the ministry added.
